What To Expect

In Master Medina’s class you begin with the rattan sticks.  Practice with weapons will increase your reflexes he contends, adding that “the speed of an escrima stick can exceed 120mph.  When you are used to defending against that kind of speed, a punch seems almost slow.” While in Master Medina’s class you will notice that the atmosphere is relaxed but respect is still expected.  Master Medina, or “Chief” doesn’t use contracts; studying with him is a privilege - not an obligation.  He is quick to tell you that if you don’t want to be there, he doesn’t want you there either.

Come to class prepared to learn and you will get an amazing education.  Master Medina is very free with his information and imparts it enthusiastically on anyone who shares his thirst for knowledge.  One of the Chief’s senior students once remarked “The volume of information the Chief shares with us is so immense, it’s like trying to take a sip of water from a fire hose!”

As excited as Master Medina is about teaching his Martial Arts, it is important to note that he teaches for the sole purpose of perpetuating the art itself.  It is because of this, that a potential student may be turned away if he/she does not exhibit the right mind set or temperament to control this kind of intensive training.  Also, promotions are not guaranteed.  Students are tested only when the Chief feels he/she is ready and even then it is no guarantee that he/she will pass the test.  When you earn your ranks in the curriculum, you know for a fact you deserved them and they weren’t just handed out.  Young adults must perform at the same level as adults therefore children under the age of 12 are not accepted.
